About the maker

Laura Friesen is an educator, mom, organic gardener and artist. She draws on learning from many sources, including a gumboot princess, a donkey farmer, a beekeeper, a wildflower whisperer and a joyous elder from Cowichan. From a long line of makers, hand-crafting is in her blood, and something that combines her love for the outdoors, sharing and desire to express reverence for her surroundings.

Passion for this land is part of what defines me – I strive to create with love and respect for the big and little wonders that surround us here in the Pacific Northwest. Making for me is medicine, and the things I create are like little personal poems or “odes” to these lands that perch on the Salish Sea.

Fallen Branches Plant Candle

Inspired by the rich, citrus fir fragrance of a coastal forest after a windstorm, this candle blends the rich earthy scent of cedar with the lighter citrus notes of grand fir and the fruity base of Nootka rosehips for coastal magic . This candle is a nod to the wild spaces of T’Sou-ke (Sooke) and many other Vancouver Island treasures, perched on the shores of the Salish Sea.

Made with sea salt, kosher-certified soy wax, cotton wick and therapeutic grade essential oils, hand-poured in 8oz amber glass.

Pollinator Garden plant candle is a collection of plants you might find in any W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) garden, like the indigenous coastal sage and field mint, or introduced species like lavender and rosemary, with heady scents that are clean and herbal… flowers adored by indigenous pollinators like the Western Bumblebee, Anna’s hummingbird, butterflies and moths.
